Wild elephant released in Amsang Wildlife Sanctuary

The wild elephant, which strolled on the streets of Guwahati on Tuesday evening and tranquilized by the forest officials at night, was released in Amsang Wildlife Sanctuary on Wednesday morning.

Assam’s principal chief conservator of forest (Wildlife) Dr. Ranjana Gupta informed about the release of the wild tusker in Amsang Wildlife Sanctuary on Wednesday morning.

The PCCF said that the health of the wild elephant has been examined by the veterinarians and it is found to be alright.

Forest officials said the wild elephant was kept at the Assam State Zoo since last night and was taken to the Amsang Wildlife Sanctuary using a hydra truck this morning and was dropped later using a crane.

Maximum care was taken to ensure that the elephant is not injured.

Assam environment and forest minister Parimal Shuklabaidya thanked all the people including forest guards, police officials and the common people for extending their cooperation in capturing the elephant and take it to the Amsang Wildlife Sanctuary.

He has asked the forest department to find out the causes of the elephant venturing out of the wild and roaming around in the city streets.

The wild tusker had entered the city from the Hengrabari reserve forest on Tuesday morning and roamed around on the busy GS Road of the city before it was captured by the forest officials from Sreenagar area.

The wild elephant, which had also led to traffic congestion on the city roads, however, has not done any damage to anyone. (Source: NE Now)
